Chas Everitt International - Property in Cape Town Northern Suburbs

Northern Suburbs Attractions and Destinations: There is a distinct difference
between the northern and southern suburbs of Cape Town, and, as with
many cities divided by a river or other landmark, Cape Town has an imaginary
line the locals call 'the boerewors curtain'. The two are separated by the huge
conglomerate called 'Century City' that serves as a shopping Mecca for most
of Cape Town, but which the northern suburbs regard as theirs - although
it's actually north of the N1 that serves as the official border.
Ask any resident of Cape Town and the major distinction between the
northern and southern suburbs will be language - English-speaking people live
in the south and Afrikaans-speaking people live in the north - but this is a
sweeping generalisation and doesn't take into account the obvious exceptions
to the rule. Suffice it to say that the newspaper of choice in the northern
suburbs is 'Die Burger', whilst 'The Cape Argus' serves the southern suburbs.
The northern suburbs are officially part of the City of Tygerberg, formed
from the union of the municipalities of Bellville, Durbanville, Goodwood,
Parow, Khayelitsha and Mfuleni. These suburbs have experienced an enormous
property growth in recent years, not least because of their access to Cape Town
International Airport, Grand West Casino and a number of wine routes, including
the Durbanville Wine Valley.
Northern Suburbs Destinations:
Belville
The residential suburb of Bellville lies a sheer 25km outside of the centre of Cape Town on the N1 towards Stellenbosch and was originally a resting place called “Twelfth Mile”, in the Tygerberg Hills, with breathtaking views over the winelands and Table Mountain. Top schools include DF Malan High, Bellville High and HTS Bellville (High Technical School), several Primary schools and crèches makes this a family haven. A stroll along the dams in Kenridge and De Bron offers relaxation for all. The forestry close to Van Riebeeckshof and Oude Westhof clears the soul from a hectic day at the office. If views are what you are after then look no further than Welgemoed, Loevenstein and Tygerberg Hills with sweeping views towards Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. Exclusive security estates are the well known Kanonberg and Welgedacht Estates. The old saying in the Cape: “Come to Bellville and C Y”.
Durbanville
Situated just 20min to the north of the city of Cape Town, Durbanville is one of the oldest municipalities in the Western Cape and originally called Pampoenkraal (pumpkin fold), after a meeting place for local farmers around some fresh water springs just beyond Durbanville Hills. One of a few original windmills of the Cape still stands in Durbanville, Onze Molen. The renowned Rose Garden, attracts many rose enthusiasts and is frequently visited for a stroll on wedding photographs.
